Clubfoot Day 2020

Ponseti International Association (PIA) has designated June 3rd as World Clubfoot Day. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthdate of Dr. Ignacio Ponseti, (1914-2009) the founder of the Ponseti Method; the gold standard treatment of clubfoot.

The goal of World Clubfoot Day is to raise awareness about clubfoot disability and its treatment using the Ponseti Method, a non-surgical treatment that includes specific manipulation and the application of plaster of Paris (POP) followed by tenotomy and lastly wearing of Foot Abduction Braces (SFABs).

The number of children born with clubfeet in Tanzania is estimated to be 2000 to 2800 per year. And despite the challenges that parents and guardians are facing ( local belief, financial, distance, family, etc ), we are happy that most children with clubfoot are starting treatment at their younger age ( less than 1-year-old).

Tanzania Clubfoot Care Organization would like to appreciate all clinic stakeholders who are working very hard to make sure that no clubfoot child will be left behind untreated and a the same time take all precautions against the COVID19 pandemic disease.

Our Slogan for this year 2020 is; “ Stronger together in fighting against  Clubfoot disability and COVID19 pandemic ”.

Also, TCCO would like to appreciate the continuous support that we get from all stakeholders, zone coordinators, Ministry of Health Community development, Gender Elderly and Children, Miraclefeet, TCCO clinics treatment providers.
